Faugheen could make his long-awaited seasonal debut in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle later this month, trainer Willie Mullins has revealed.
The former Champion Hurdle winner has not run since winning the Leopardstown feature 12 months ago after suffering a season-ending injury in the build-up to the Cheltenham Festival.
He had been entered in the Morgiana and Hatton's Grace Hurdle but failed to line-up in either event, prompting fears that all was not well with the nine-year-old.
Owner Rich Ricci issued a positive update on the gelding last week and now Mullins has confirmed his stable star to be on course for the Cheltenham Festival. However, he is hopeful he could make his return in the January 29 feature at Leopardstown.
"I'm pleased with him and he's definitely on course for Cheltenham," Mullins told The Irish Times. "If all goes well, hopefully he can run in the Irish Champion beforehand."
