Murray: I was fully conscious

Conor Murray has insisted that he did not lose consciousness during Munster's European Champions Cup victory over Glasgow last weekend.

Murray fell to the ground after a clash of heads with Glasgow lock Tim Swinson but he was allowed to continue after receiving treatment on the pitch.

A short time later referee Luke Pearce was advised by the TMO Graham Hughes that Murray needed to leave the pitch to undergo a Head Injury Assessment, which took just over five minutes before the Ireland scrum-half was deemed fit enough to continue.

The European Professional Club Rugby has launched an inquiry into Munster's handling of the incident but the Ireland scrum-ham has insisted that he was fully conscious the entire time.

"The last few days I’ve been working with the medics and physios and just making sure I’m ok, following all the protocols that you have to follow and doing the tests and I’ve come through them," he explained.

"I’ve passed all the tests and I’m fine. We’ve followed all the HIA protocols and worked with world rugby.

"There’s been a bit made about it but I am fine, I’ve trained fully today and the physios have looked after me, kept a close eye on me and I came through ok so I’m ready for the weekend."

Reflecting on the incident, he added: “I was just talking to them (medics). I was fully conscious and talking to them about my neck. I hit my neck off Swinson’s elbow.

“It was a miss-timed tackle by me – I got my head on the wrong side and I was telling them that it was my neck that was at me and my head was fine and I was fully conscious.

“They didn’t suspect that I had lost consciousness, which is the most important thing, and I came back on and finished the game and have felt fine since."
