Arsenal have completed the signing of Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi.
Just hours after announcing the arrival of Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna, the Gunners have finalised a £35million deal for Mustafi from Valencia.
Mustafi, a member of the 2014 World Cup-winning side, has been with the Spanish club for two seasons, making 64 league appearances, and manager Arsene Wenger believes the 24-year-old will be a big signing for the club.
“He is at the right age. He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well. We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future," Wenger said.
Commenting on his move to the Emirates, Mustafi told the club's official website: "I’m happy. It took some time but finally I’m here and I’m happy to have made a step forward in my career again, because I think it is a step forward to have joined this club. I hope I’m going to have a great time here.
"When a club comes in and shows interest, and it’s a club like Arsenal, that makes you feel special. When I heard of the interest and I saw people trying to get me here - and the situation wasn’t the easiest one - but when you see that people really want to get you here, it gives the feeling that you’re really wanted. That’s why I’m here right now."
Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old has agreed a move to the Riverside to gain more first-team football after being dropped by Arsenal in the wake of the 4-3 defeat to Liverpool.
"I'm really pleased," Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka said. "It's a position where we've been working towards bringing the right player in.
"We haven't been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he's going to help us a lot.
"I'd like to say 'Thank you' to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That's important and we're looking forward to working with him."
