Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer has revealed that he could out of action for six months.
The star keeper – widely regarded as the world’s best – broke his metatarsal in Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final exit to Real Madrid last April. He returned to action at the start of the current season, but his foot has been re-aggravated and he now looks likely to be out until the new year.
"The wound has to stay clean and heal by itself," he said. "Then the healing within the foot takes place. That can even take half a year.
"It hasn't been an easy time for me and I am longing to be back on the pitch. Of course, it always depends on the healing process. My recovery is going well so far. I'm very positive and think I am making progress."
Bayern appointed Jupp Heynckes as manager this week in the wake of the sacking of Carlo Ancelloti, as they seek to secure a sixth Bundesliga title in succession.
