Gary Neville believes Jose Mourinho will eventually get things right at Manchester United but the former Reds defender believes there is more disappointment to come first.
After another summer of big spending and the appointment of the Portuguese, the 20-time Premier League champions lie in sixth place, eight points behind early leaders Liverpool.
As well as poor results, Mourinho has overseen many terrible performances including defeats at Feyenoord, Fenerbahce, Watford and a pummeling at former club Chelsea, on top of players such as Luke Shaw and new signing Henrik Mkhitaryan being seemingly frozen out of the side.
But Neville feels that although he is surprised at Utd's struggles so far this term, he has backed Mourinho to succeed in the long term.
“They have to really live with Mourinho now,” Neville said. "Hopefully it will work and he can get it right because we need some stability there.
“I thought United would settle down quicker than they have with the new signings, they haven’t – it looks like it’s still going to be a bit painful.
“Mourinho has always been about picking his best 11 and he will deliver the win.
“He has had to change it constantly and he doesn’t know his best team yet.”
