New Zealand and England have claimed the first two berths in the Women’s World Cup semi-finals this afternoon.
The Black Ferns swept aside Canada 48-5 to confirm their positon atop Pool A, scoring eight tries en route to dismantling the North Americans.
Prop Aldora Ituna scored a hat-trick for the four-time world champions with Selica Winiata, Stacey Waaka, Kelly Brazier, Fiao'o Fa'amausili and Renee Wickliffe all touching down once each. Kicked points came from Brazier and Kendra Cocksedge.
Defending champions England claimed their spot in the last four with a resounding 47-26 victory over the USA in Pool B.
England ran in seven tries with Emily Scarratt, Marlie Packer (2), Katy McLean, Amy Wilson-Hardy and Amy Cokayne on the scoresheet, as well as being awarded a penalty try.
The USA recorded a losing bonus-point as they scored four tries of their own through Kate Zackary, Cheta Emba, Naya Tapper and a last-minute Kristen Thomas score sees them advance to the last four after France beat Ireland 21-5 int the evening game.
Speaking post-match, England captain Sarah Hunter, said: "We knew the pools were about winning each game as they came and getting out of it and into the semi-finals. So, it’s job three done.
"I think we always want to come out in a game and impose ourselves and get a foothold in a game and get momentum. And we did that in the start of both halves. But we’ve got areas to work on."
