Newcastle release Obertan and Marveaux

Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux have left Newcastle by mutual consent.

The contracts of both players had been due to expire in the summer and, with neither likely to feature in the final two games of the season, the decision was taken to release them from their contracts early.

A settlement was agreed earlier this week which will allow the players to begin the search for new clubs.

Obertan joined Newcastle from Manchester United in August 2011 and in his five years at St James' Park the 27-yer-old winger scored three goals in 77 appearances. But he has not featured for the first team since last September.

Marveaux, meanwhile, has been plagued by injuries since moving to Newcastle in the summer of 2011 and he spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Guingamp.
