Neymar asks UEFA to remove Barcelona from Champions League

PSG’s Neymar has made the rather extraordinary request to UEFA that his former club Barcelona be thrown out of this season’s Champions League.

The request comes as the latest event in the Brazilian’s row with the Catatlan club over a loyalty payment that he believes he is still owed. The world’s most-expensive footballer claims he is due the payment as a result of the timing of his move to PSG, having signed a contract extension with Barca in October 2016, which would have kept him at the club until 2021.

Neymar signed for PSG in August of this year for €222m, but believes that Barcelona are still required to pay said loyalty payment dating from back in 2016, which amounts to €25.6m

Barca refused Neymar’s request for the payment and responded by demanding he refunds the club for a contract-renewal bonus, which amounts to €8.5m.

The latest instalment of the saga came in the form of a letter to UEFA from Neymar’s representatives, in which his demand to have Barca removed from Europe’s top club-competition was contained. UEFA have yet to make any official statement on the request.
