Neymar is set to miss PSG’s Ligue 1 clash with Montpellier with a foot injury.
The most expensive footballer in the world has been omitted from PSG’s squad for the tie scheduled for this afternoon, with the rumour-mill circulating the notion that Neymar has been left out as a result of his petulant behaviour in the side’s 2-0 victory over Lyon last weekend, when he bickered with team-mate Edison Cavani over who would assume penalty-taking duties. That fallout led to Neymar issuing a public apology to his team-mates at training during the week.
PSG coach Unai Emery moved to allay fears of a bust-up when speaking at a press conference, stating that Neymar is being rested ahead of the side’s clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
"The atmosphere is great in the dressing-room. It's true that there are characters and cultures," said Emery. "We can pay attention to that, but the atmosphere is good. The players are competitors who want the best for the team and, after that, for themselves."
Regarding which player would take penalties for the side, Emery responded that neither Cavani or Neymar would be sole penalty takers.
"Here, the two penalty-takers are Cavani and Neymar,” said Emery. “Both players are capable of taking them. Who is number one? The important thing is to put it in the back of the net."
