Nikitin withdraws from semi-final

Michael Conlan's conqueror Vladimir Nikitin has withdrawn from the semi-final of the men's Bantamweight competition due to injury.

Nikitin controversially defeated Conlan in their quarter-final bout on Tuesday but the Russian has opted not to fight American Shakur Stevenson on medical grounds.

The 26-year-old went into Tuesday fight with a head wound which was quickly opened by Conlan and is not in a position to fight Stevenson.

"We eliminate Vladimir (from the tournament), he cannot not box because of injuries. He has a dissection and there are some other injuries. His fight against Stevenson will not happen," a representative is quoted as saying by Russian news agency TASS.

Despite withdrawing from the bout, Nikitin will still secure a bronze medal courtesy of his quarter-final defeat of Conlan.
