Derry football boss Damian Barton's plan for next season have been rocked by the news that nine players are set to step down from the panel.
Danny Heavron, Sean Leo McGoldrick, Liam McGoldrick, Gareth McKinless, Conor McAtamney, Emmett Bradley, Ciaran McFaul, Eoghan Brown and Christopher Bradley are all likely to make themselves unavailable for 2017, the Irish News reports.
Atamney won’t be available until May as he is studying for a sports science degree in Loughborough, McKinless wants to go travelling to America next summer, while Bellaghy forward Eoghan Brown will be on honeymoon and has therefore decided to take the whole season off.
Sean Leo McGoldrick, who didn't appear for the Oak Leaf County in the Championship last year after an injury-hit 12 months, and Heavron have opted out for personal reasons.
The McGoldricks’ cousin, Eoghan Rua's Niall Holly, is also deliberating over whether to stay involved, but there was better news from Ballinascreen defender Dermot McBride, who has committed for the season, while his club team-mates Benny Heron and Carlus McWilliams are also likely to be involved in 2017.
