No contract news - Benitez

Rafael Benitez has yet to hear from the Newcastle board regarding his future at St James's Park.

Benitez's contract is due to expire at the end of the current season and earlier this month he made it clear to owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley what it would take for him to sign a new deal.

While frustrated at the situation, Benitez has vowed to remain professional and give his all to the team for the remainder of the season.

"We're at the same point – no news. I finish my contract on June 30. I'm a professional. I want to do well and the first thing is to win against Southampton in the next game," Benitez told his weekly press conference on Thursday.

"I don’t like to see debates about my contract, players leaving or me having meetings with anyone. I have to prepare the team the best way possible for the next game."

It has been reported that Matt Ritchie will leave Newcastle in the summer, but Benitez insists no decision has been made.

"My priority is to concentrate on the game. I'm not happy when I see all the stories about Ritchie – it's not true. My job is to prepare Ritchie for the next game," Benitez stated.

"I cannot give any advice about the future. My contract is up on the June 30."
