Felipe Massa says Williams are the only F1 team likely to offer him a contract for the 2018 season.
The Brazilian agreed a one-year deal with Williams to partner Lance Stroll in January 2017, just months after announcing his retirement from the sport.
Massa, who has won 11 grand prix races during his 16-year career, came out of retirement after Valtteri Bottas moved to Mercedes to replace world champion Nico Rosberg.
But the 36-year-old admits there are few options on the table for 2018, and that it is shaping up for "Williams or nothing" next year.
"I think so. Or maybe something happens, a guy like Rosberg decides to retire. But I don't think it will happen," the former Sauber and Ferrari driver said.
"I look [at other teams] but maybe teams that I looked, maybe they had a different direction in terms of drivers.
"Now no [talks with other teams]. Now I check if I stay or not."
Massa, who has previously said he will race in Formula E when his F1 career ends, says he needs to know that Williams will be competitive before signing on for another year.
"I'm still thinking, I'm still talking with the team, to see if they want me or not," the 2008 world championship runner-up said.
"I need to be sure maybe I can have a better year."
