Galway hurling manager Micheál Donoghue is refusing to put a timescale on Joe Canning's return from a serious hamstring injury.
Canning tore his hamstring in Galway's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Tipperary last August and subsequently revealed that the injury almost forced him to retire.
He had been expected to miss the majority of 2017 due to the severity of the injury, but he is making steady progress in his recovery and it is hoped that he could return ahead of Galway's final Allianz Hurling League Division 1B clash with Limerick on March 26.
Donoghue, however, will not put any pressure on the Portumna clubman as Galway seek an immediate return to Division 1A.
“No timeframe yet. Any of the boys there long term are just doing their rehabs with the medical team and there is no timeframe set on them at all,” Donoghue told the Irish Examiner.
“Some of them had significant injuries. We are not putting any timescale on it, we’ll just leave it to see.
"The medical team will get the boys back as quickly as they can. Because of the seriousness, we have to let them take their course and there is no pressure.”
