No worries for Murray at Wimbledon

Andy Murray breezed through the first round of his Wimbledon defence with a 6-1 6-4 6-2 victory over Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik.

The Briton, 30, will now face Germany's Dustin Brown, who eliminated Rafael Nadal from the 2015 tournament, in the second round on Wednesday.

Murray seemed untroubled by the hip injury that forced him to miss two exhibition matches at The Hurlingham Club last week, and three days of practice ahead of Wimbledon.

"I feel pretty good, the last few days I had been feeling better each day," he told BBC Sport.

"Getting out on the match court is different, the intensity is higher and the adrenaline helps numbs some pain. I moved well today and thought I did pretty well for the first match."

Fellow Briton Cameron Norrie was beaten 6-3 6-2 6-2 by France's two-time All-Engand Club finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Australia's Nick Kyrgios was forced to retire from his first round match against France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert with a hip injury.

The 20th seed withdrew from the first round of the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club last month because of the long-standing problem, and said before Wimbledon that he was only "65% fit".

In the women's tournament, Britain's Laura Robson lost her first-round tie against Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4 6-2.

The 23-year-old reached the last 16 of Wimbledon in 2013, but has struggled with injury and fitness in recent years and is now ranked 189 in the world.

Tenth seed Venus Williams came through a first-set tie-break to beat Belgium's Elise Mertens 7-6 6-3.

The 37-year-old American will now face China's Qiang Wang, who overcame Kai-Chen Chang 6-3 6-4, in the second round.

There will be live coverage of Wimbledon on eirSport in Ireland from 3 July until 16 July.
