O'Brien blow for Connacht

Connacht flanker Sean O’Brien will be sidelined until the New Year following surgery on his injured shoulder.

The 22-year-old, who came through the academy and made his senior debut in November 2015, sustained the injury in the 32-10 Pro14 win over the Southern Kings on 9 September.

Ireland international full-back Tiernan O'Halloran suffered a hip injury during the 21-9 defeat to Dragons at Rodney Parade on Friday, and is a doubt for Saturday's game against the Cardiff Blues at the Sportsgrounds.

Cormac Brennan [shoulder] and Niyi Adeolokun [knee] are also unavailable, while winger Matt Healy will be sidelined for the next few weeks with a groin injury.

Centre Peter Robb [hip surgery] and scrum-half James Mitchell [shoulder] are long-term casualties for head coach Kieran Keane.

Connacht lie third in Conference A with six points from three games, while Cardiff have yet to win any of their three matches.
