O'Brien cleared as Williams gets four-week ban
The Lions Sean O’Brien has been cleared of dangerous play following his side’s 24-21 victory over New Zealand in the second Test in Wellington.
The Leinster and Ireland flanker was alleged by the hosts to have struck winger Waisake Naholo in the 59th minute, at which point the All Black left the field for a HIA assessment and did not return.
However, the Lion was cleared following a hearing that lasted nearly three hours and into the early hours of Monday morning in New Zealand, leaving him free to feature in the series decider in Auckland next Saturday.
New Zealand's Sonny Bill Williams, meanwhile, has been suspended for four weeks following his shoulder charge to the head of Anthony Watson that led to a red card in the tie.
Williams pleaded guilty to the charge and was handed a four-week ban by the judicial panel.
Malakai Fekitoa has been called up in the centre’s place for the deciding third Test in Auckland this Saturday.
