Cillian O'Connor believes negotiating the All-Ireland SFC qualifier series has benefitted Mayo.
Defeat to Galway in the Connacht SFC semi-final meant Mayo had to progress through the qualifiers to reach Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.
Stephen Rochford's side must overcome Tipperary to reach the All-Ireland decider, and while O'Connor would have liked another provincial medal, he believes they have proven themselves through the qualifiers.
"If I could go back, I’d want to win the Connacht championship. Galway won it and that irks us but credit to them they deserved to beat us that day. We were just beaten by a better team,” O’Connor is quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.
"If I could go back and change it, I’d obviously go through the front door but given where we found ourselves on Tuesday evening after that defeat, I think we’ve done well.
"I think we’ve come through tough games, we’ve used a lot of different players, we’ve got some players who are coming back from injury who got some time into the legs and overcome those knocks and stuff and, look, to be back towards the end of August getting ready to play in Croke Park."
