Ronan O'Gara has been named as the new head coach of Top 14 side La Rochelle.
O'Gara is the current backs coach of Super Rugby champions Crusaders but he will return to France where he previously worked as defence coach with Racing 92.
The former Ireland international had been linked with a return to Munster, but he was keen on taking on a head coach role for the first time and his appointment with La Rochelle means Jono Gibbes will become the new director of rugby for the French outfit.
"Ronan O'Gara joins the staff as head coach. He knows the Top 14 well, he has experience. He will bring a high level of skill," Gibbes commented.
During his four-and-a-half years at Racing 92, O'Gara was the kicking coach and then took over the defence before moving to Crusaders.
