Aidan O’Shea will miss the start of Mayo's national league campaign with an ankle injury he sustained playing basketball.
Mayo manager Stephen Rochford confirmed says the former All-Star will miss next Saturday’s opening league game against Monaghan in Castlebar.
The 26-year-old suffered a left ankle sprain playing for EJ Sligo All-Stars, and wore a 'moon boot' at the All-Stars' Division One final defeat to Neptune at the National Arena on Saturday.
"Aidan suffered an ankle injury which is not as serious as initially thought," he said.
"He should return to training with us this week and while he won't make the Monaghan game we are hopeful he will be available for the match against Kerry (on 11 February)."
