Mesut Ozil has stated that his decision to extend his stay with Arsenal was "easy".
The first half of the current season saw speculation circle that the Germany international would make a move away from The Emirates, with a potential move to Manchester United, along with Alexis Sanchez - who did move to United in January, mooted as a potential destination for the 29-year-old World Cup winner.
However, the former Schalke, Werder Bremen and Real Madrid player confirmed today to Arsenal Player that he never had any intention of leaving the north London club, before signing a contract extension on the last day of January.
"It feels really good [to have committed to Arsenal]," said Ozil.
"I’m really happy to sign here for such a big club like Arsenal. I've always said to the club that I'm happy here and now I've signed, I'm really happy.
"My team-mates and family have always supported me. I have a lot of goals here with the team, I want to reach those and I'm really happy. I love the city.
"Before I signed the contract, I spoke with my family about what the best decision was for me. At the end of the day, it was really easy for me to say 'yes' to the club.
"I’m here for more years and I hope we will win some titles with the team. I believe in that."
Ozil's time thus far at Arsenal has produced three FA Cup triumphs, with the Gunners second-favourites to win the Europa League this term, with Atletico Madrid favourites. The Gunners face AC Milan in their round of 16 second-leg on Thursday, with a 2-0 lead after the first leg, a game which is live on eir Sport 2. With the Gunners currently 12 points off the Champions League automatic-qualification spots in the Premier League, the clash with Milan has become a season-defining game as they continue their quest to win the tournament and with it a place in the Champions League for 2018/19.
Arsenal's Europa League Round of 16 second leg against AC Milan at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, 15 March will be shown live on eir Sport 2 [kick off 8.05pm].
