Alan Pardew believes Gareth Southgate should be appointed England manager on a permanent basis.
Southgate was named interim manager for England's next four games following Sam Allardyce's sacking last month and he is the overwhelming favourite to take charge of the Three Lions for the remainder of their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Pardew had been touted as a potential replacement for Allardyce but he ruled himself out of the running early on and he has backed Southgate to take over permanently.
"Gareth, in my opinion, is a great choice for England. Now it's about results, we live and die by results. He's done well so far," Pardew said.
"Part of being a manager that everything is centred on the results. Everything going on around that can make it difficult to get them.
"We're trying to establish ourselves as a recognised Premier League club and you need that accreditation from international managers.
"Andros Townsend's call-up was good for us and good for players like Scotty Dann, Wilfried Zaha, Jason Puncheon, Joel Ward. They've all been playing well for us.
"If Gareth does get the job permanently he'll know the traditions of this football club."
