Piercy maintains Safeway lead

Scott Piercy leads the Safeway Open after the second day but will have to complete his second round on Saturday of the weather-delayed tournament.

The American shot a course record 62 on Thursday to lead overnight started his second round over two hours past his scheduled start time due to heavy rains and could only complete 12 holes before darkness forced a halt to play.

Piercy picked up where he left off on Thursday with two birdies and an eagle moving him to -14, two shots clear of Johnson Wagner.

England's Paul Casey continued his recent run of good form and lies three shots off the pace on -11.

In fourth place is clubhouse leader Bill Haas but he is six shots behind Piercy on eight under while Phil Mickelson, fresh from driving the US team to a comprehensive victory at the Ryder Cup two weeks ago, sits two shots further back on -6 after a second successive 69.
