Pirelli test plan approved

The F1 Commission and Strategy Group has unanimously approved Pirell's plans for an extensive test programme ahead of the 2017 season.

Pirelli had warned it was prepared to quit the sport if the test programme was not ratified to allow the tyre manufactured to adequately test the wider rubber which will be introduced next season.

The tyres will be part of the revamped cars which will aim to deliver significantly better lap times and the F1 Commission and Strategy Group's decision means the number of test days will increase from 12 to 25.

Pirelli won a tender to supply tyres from 2017 until 2019 in October but manufacturer delayed signing off on the deal pending the outcome of Monday's vote.
