PL round-up: Arsenal move up to third

Olivier Giroud netted for a fifth successive game, as Arsenal beat Swansea 4-0 at the Liberty Stadium to move up to third in the Premier League table.

The France striker opened the scoring in the 37th minute from close range, after Alfie Mawson had failed to clear Mesut Ozil's weak header from Alexis Sanchez's cross.

Arsenal went 2-0 up on 54 minutes when Jack Cork could only deflect Alex Iwobi's cross-shot over goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, then Kyle Naughton became the second Swansea player to put through his own goal when he turned Iwobi's low 67th minute cross into his own net.

Alexis Sanchez then wrapped up the scoring on 73 minutes with an emphatic finish, after Wayne Routledge could only half clear Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain's cross from the right flank.

Arsene Wenger's side move above Liverpool on goal difference, just one point behind Tottenham in second place.

Burnley climbed to tenth in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Southampton at Turf Moor.

The only goal of the game came from Joey Barton, with the newly re-signed Clarets midfielder netting with a deflected free-kick past wrong-footed goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The defeat leaves Southampton 13th.

Hull City came from behind to beat Bournemouth 3-1 at KCOM Stadium and claim three valuable points in their bid to escape the drop.

The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty after just three minutes, when Harry Maguire hauled down Ryan Fraser, with Junior Stanislas stepping up to hammer home the spot kick.

Hull levelled matters just after the half hour, with Tom Huddlestone picking out Andrew Robertson in plenty of space on the left to whip in a cross for Abel Hernandez to head home.

The turnaround was complete when Hernandez bagged a second minutes after the break when he collected a ball on the right, before moving the ball onto his left foot, and then curling the ball into the bottom left.

And the three points were secured when a Huddlestone shot took a deflection off Tyrone Mings to reach the back of the net.

The win lifts the Tigers to 18th, level on points with Crystal Palace in 17th, while Bournemouth now lie 11th in the table.

Stoke took the away scalp of Sunderland with a 3-1 win at the Stadium of Light.

All four goals came before the interval with Marko Arnautovic bagging a brace in the opening 22 minutes. His first was a rebound off keeper Vito Mannone from his own shot and his second came after weaving through a packed penalty area, before a one-two with Peter Crouch, and then firing home.

Peter Crouch added a third from a Charlie Adam cross, before Sunderland finally sparked to life with a long ball reaching Jermain Defoe to fire home past Potters' goalkeeper Lee Grant and in off the post.

But there was to be no further comeback from the Black Cats as the Potters shut up shop in the second half to see out the game with their two-goal advantage to lift themselves into the top half of the table in ninth; Sunderland remain 19th and in the drop zone.

Andy Carroll scored a goal-of-the-season contender, as West Ham beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at the London Stadium.

Sofiane Feghouli broke the deadlock on 68 minutes with a tap-in from Michail Antonio's pass across the six-yard box, before Carroll doubled the score with a magnificent far-post bicycle kick from Antonio's deep cross from the left.

And Antonio made it a hat-trick of assists when he set up Manuel Lanzini to net West Ham's third on the counter attack, the Argentine's fourth goal in four games against the Eagles.

West Ham move above Southampton into 12th place in the Premier League table, while Palace remain in 17th place, but level on 16 points with Hull City in the final relegation spot.

Watford and Middlesbrough played out a goalless draw at Vicarage Road, on a day where emotion overshadowed football.

Both sets of supporters paid respects to former Watford and England manager Graham Taylor who died this week at the age of 72.

Etienne Capoue and Troy Deeney wasted good chances in either half for the Walter Mazzarri's side, who stay in 14th, two places above Boro.
