PL round-up: Palace down Liverpool; United win

Anthony Martial shone as Manchester United moved to within a point of the top-four with a 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Goals from the Frenchman and the returning Wayne Rooney moves Jose Mourinho's side to one point behind Manchester City, adding to an already crucial derby game on Thursday.

Martial opened the scoring in the 21st minute after his effort found the bottom-corner following a lighting counter-attack, something which has been lacking for the Red Devils in previous seasons.

Rooney returned to the United starting eleven following Zlatan Ibrahimovic's injury and doubled United's advantage six minutes before the break when he squeezed his shot past Tom Heaton for his first goal since January.

Despite boasting an impressive home record, Burnley failed to register a shot on target.

The victory sees United go 23 unbeaten going into Thursday's crunch tie.

While Burnley have won just once in their previous 11 games.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's top-four hopes took a massive knock after a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Christian Benteke came back to haunt his old side with a brace, handing his side a huge boost in their bid for survival and cancelling out Philippe Coutinho's first-half free-kick.

Liverpool broke the deadlock in the 24th minute after his free-kick beat the wall and found the bottom corner to give his side a deserved lead after early pressure paid off for the Reds.

Benteke proved a problem for the Liverpool backline all afternoon and the Belgian striker pulled his side level after he dispatched Yohan Cayabe's cross into the roof of the net with three minutes to half-time.

The 26-year-old gave his side the lead when headed home from close-range in the 74th minute after lackluster defending from the hosts.

Palace have now won their last six from eight and look likely to remain in the Premier League, sitting on a tally of 38 points with five games remaining.

While Liverpool stay third with rivals Manchester United and Manchester City two and three points back respectively.
