PL round-up: Rooney becomes United record scorer with late equalizer

Wayne Rooney struck a last-minute equaliser against Stoke City to become Manchester United’s all-time leading goal-scorer as both sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Britannia.

The former Everton man curled in a spectacular free-kick in stoppage time after a Juan Mata own-goal gave Mark Hughes’ side the lead.

Despite pressurizing the hosts for much of the game, Jose Mourinho’s side failed to convert possession to goals, with Mata guilty of missing a golden opportunity in the first-half.

The result sees the Red Devils four points off Arsenal in fourth, who play Hull City on Sunday.

Stoke remain ninth in the league and host Everton on the 1st of February.

Crystal Palace still await their first win under Sam Allardyce after a late Seamus Coleman goal hand Everton the win in the Premier League at Selhurst Park.

Another poor performance from the London outfit sees them sit in the relegation places, with only Hull - who play Arsenal on Sunday - and Sunderland.

Ireland International Seamus Coleman, eventually broke the deadlock in the 87th minute after the wing-back latched onto youngster Tom Davies fine through-ball.

Palace failed to register a shot on target until the 78th minute, and were deservedly beaten by Ronald Koeman’s side, after Romelu Lukaku hit the post before Kevin Mirallas’ shot was well pushed away by Wayne Hennessey.

Everton will look to make it three on the bounce when they travel to Mark Hughes’ Stoke City on the 1st of February.

While Crystal Palace face Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth on the 31st of January.

West Ham secured back-to-back victories with a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

First blood went to the visitors as Andy Carroll galloped to the edge of the box to send a bullet header past Victor Valdes for 1-0.

Boro levelled matters with a sublime team move. Alvaro Negredo headed to Adama Traore at the edge of the centre-circle to control and back heel to Calum Chambers down the right to cross for Christhian Stuani to side-foot the ball to the net.

The Hammers were back in front just before the break. Michail Antonio unleashed a powerful effort on goal from the edge of the area which Valdes could only manage to parry into the path of Carroll to tap home.

The Londoners wrapped up the points in injury time. They broke four on two with Manuel Lanzini pulling back to the centre for Jonathan Calleri to fire home courtesy of a deflection.

West Ham sit tenth in the table, while Boro are now 16th, just four points above the relegation zone, and preparing themselves for the likelihood of a relegation battle.

West Brom claimed all three points with a 2-0 home victory over Sunderland at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies opener came as the Black cats failed to deal with a corner and their clearance attempt instead allowed Gareth McAuley to pick out Darren Fletcher six yards out to chest down before smashing home to the far corner.

Chris Brunt made it 2-0 for the home side before the interval. Matthew Phillips played a low ball into the box where Vito Mannone pushed it into the path of Nacer Chadli to smash against the crossbar, at which point the ball fell to Brunt to rifle home.

The win keeps West Brom in the push for Europa League qualification in eighth place, nine points behind sixth-placed Manchester United. Sunderland stay 20th and bottom, three points from safety.

A late strike from Benik Afobe helped salvage a point for a Bournemouth side who came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with an impressive Watford side at Vitality Stadium.

Christian Kabasele opened the scoring for Watford in the first-half after the Cherries failed to deal with the London outfit defensively.

Josh King hit back for Eddie Howe’s side after he dispatched an Adam Smith cross, before Troy Deeney capitalised on another Bournemouth defence to fire his side in-front again.

Afobe hit late-on after Andrew Surman’s through-ball found the striker, before Charlie Daniels had the ball in the back of the net, although the official correctly judged the 30-year-old to have handled the ball.

Watford still search for their first win in seven games, while Bournemouth are have recorded just on in their last seven.
