PL round-up: Vardy sees red, but Leicester fight back at Stoke

Jamie Vardy saw red for the second time in 2016, but champions Leicester City fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Stoke City at the Bet 365 Stadium.

Mark Hughes’ side opened the scoring when former Barcelona striker Bojan converted from the spot, before England international Vardy was sent off for jumping in with two feet on Mame Diouf.

Claudio Raneiri's side went 2-0 down just before the interval as Welsh international Joe Allen netted his fifth goal of the season with a tap-in, after Giannelli Imbula’s shot had hit the post.

The Foxes reduced the deficit in the 74th minute when substitution Leonardo Ulloa headed home with his first touch after Demarai Gray – who was brought on with the striker – supplied the cross with his first kick.

Against all the odds, the visitors grabbed a late equaliser in the 85th minute when Daniel Amartey leaped to score his first goal for the club, and rescue an unlikely point.

The comeback sees Leicester sit 15th in the Premier League, three points off the relegation zone, while Stoke missed the opportunity to climb into the top-half of the table and sit 11th.

Middlesbrough overcame a dismal Swansea City side 3-0 at the Riverside in the Premier League.

In what could be an early six-pointer, the hosts broke the deadlock when former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo dispatched Adam Clayton’s cross, then the 31-year-old added a second in the 29th minute.

Despite only scoring six goals in the league before today’s game, Aitor Karanka’s side added their third in the 58th minute after Marten de Roon neatly tucked away Gaston Ramirez’s curling cross.

Middlesbrough move up 14th, four points off the drop, while Swansea drop below Sunderland into 19th, level on points with bottom club Hull City but with a marginally better goal difference.

Patrick van Aanholt scored the only goal of the game, as Sunderland beat Watford 1-0 at the Stadium of Light to move off the bottom of the Premier League table.

The Dutchman bundled home Jermain Defoe’s 49th-minute cross from the angle at the far post to secure a second home win in three matches for the Blacks Cats, who move up to 18th place, just one point behind Crystal Palace in 17th.

Mark Noble scored the winner for the second time in four days, as West Ham beat Hull City 1-0 at the London Stadium.

The Hammers’ skipper, who scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday, rolled his 76th-minute penalty past Tigers’ goalkeeper David Marshall to lift his side up to 13th in the table, five points clear of the relegation zone.

Hull, who drop to bottom spot after an 11th Premier League defeat of the season, can count themselves unlucky after referee Lee Mason pointed to the spot following Tom Huddlestone’s soft push on Andre Ayew.
