Pochettino hopeful over Alderweireld

Mauricio Pochettino has moved to allay fears over Toby Alderweireld's fitness.

Alderweireld was stretchered off during Tottenham's draw with West Brom on Saturday after picking up what appeared to be a knee injury.

It was suggested that the defender could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but Pochettino is hopeful that he will be available for next week's game against Leicester.

"We need to wait for the scan but we believe it's not a big issue," Pochettino told reporters. "He got a knock on his leg but it was better on Sunday and Monday. We need to wait for the results of the scan but I hope it's nothing important.

"In the moment he went down it was tough and from our position it was difficult to see what had happened.

"But it wasn't a big issue, a big knock, a heavy knock in his leg but we hope it's not a big problem for the next week."

Alderweireld will miss Tuesday's Champions League tie against Bayer Leverkusen with Eric Dier expected to be called into the starting line-up.

Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt at UFC 205 in New York on November 12 live on the eir Sport pack. The eir Sport pack is free to all eir broadband customers. To learn more about setting sport free visit www.eir.ie/sport .
