Premier League round-up: Spurs slaughter sorry Swans

Two goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen helped Tottenham Hotspur ease past dismal Swansea 5-0 at White Hart Lane to move within a point of the top four - at least until later on Saturday evening.

Former Spurs defender Kyle Naughton conceded a penalty in the 38th minute after John Moss pointed to the spot in what looked like a soft decision, Kane stepping up to convert the spot-kick for his 6th goal in six games.

The hosts doubled their lead just before the interval when Son Heung-min’s fantastic volley and top-class technique from outside the area proved too difficult for Lukasz Fabianski to deal with.

Kane has proved pivotal for the hosts since his return from injury, and the 23-year-old finished again after Son’s heavy touch fell perfectly to the England international who dispatched his low-hit effort into the bottom corner.

Shortly after Kane was denied his hat-trick when his effort was correctly ruled offside, before Eriksen headed home from close-range in the 70th minute.

The Dane stroked home in stoppage time to finish what was almost a complete performance from Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

A brace from Christian Benteke helped earn Crystal Palace a first win in eight matches as they beat Southampton 3-0 at Selhurst Park.

The hosts took the lead when Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster miscued a clearance and Benteke took full advantage to score from close range.

The Eagles doubled their lead when an unmarked James Tomkins poked home a set-piece from inside the six-yard box

Benteke made it three when he finished off Jason Puncheon’s centre to ease some of the pressure on manager Alan Pardew.

Sunderland have moved up to 18th in the Premier League table after winning their third game on-the-spin, beating Leicester City 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.

A Robert Huth own goal put the Black Cats ahead on 64 minutes before Jermain Defoe continued his fine recent form when grabbing the second with just 13 minutes remaining.

Shinji Okazaki halved the deficit for the struggling champions just three minutes later when he guided home Demarai Gray’s cross.

That set up a nervous finish but David Moyes’ side held on for another crucial three points, a result which leaves them just two points behind the Foxes.

Two first-half goals helped West Brom side overcome ten-man Watford 3-1 at the Hawthorns as the Baggies start to establish themselves as the set-piece specialists in the Premier League.

The hosts have scored from six corners this season, more than any other Premier League team, and former Manchester United man Johnny Evans added their seventh when he converted from a precise Chris Brunt corner in the 16th minute.

James Morrison added the Baggies second in the 34th minute when his 25 yard free-kick took a huge deflection off Juan Zuniga before rolling past the helpless Heurelho Gomes.

Despite Christian Kabasele pulling one back for the visitors, all hopes disappeared when Roberto Pereyra was dismissed following an altercation with Ireland international James McClean.

Matt Phillips confirmed the win in stoppage time when he curled his effort into the bottom-corner, leaving the home team with three wins in four and now they now sit sixth in the Premier League table.

Stoke climbed into the top half of the table after they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Burnley at the Brittania Stadium.

Ireland international Jonathan Walters put Mark Hughes’ men ahead when his delightful volley beat Tom Heaton.

Marco Muniesa’s first goal of the season made it 2-0 before half-time when he finished off Marko Arnautovic’s good work.

Burnley rarely looked like getting back into the game and their rotten away form continues.
