Neymar, now the world’s most expensive footballer, has said that he left Barcelona for PSG in the search for new challenges in his career.
The 25-year-old Brazilian completed his €220m switch from Spain to France on Thursday and will begin the quest to return PSG to the summit of French domestic football and also attempt to guide them to a first-ever Champions League title, which he won once in his four seasons at Barca.
Neymar released a statement on Instagram following the move, stating: “I have conquered everything an athlete can conquer. I have lived unforgettable moments. But a player [me] needs challenges.
“And for the second time in my life, I'll contradict my father.
“Paris St-Germain's ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings.
“I feel ready to take the challenge. I will do everything I can to help my new team-mates.”
Neymar will be unveiled at a press conference this afternoon and will be formally introduced to the PSG fans on Saturday at Parc des Princes.
