The Halo cockpit safety concept that is expected to be introduced ahead of the 2017 Formula 1 season made its debut at the final pre-season test in Barcelona on Thursday.
Kimi Raikkonen completed two laps of the track with the cockpit head-protection device in place.
Although the prototype is based on a design agreed by all the teams, many changes are expected before it is introduced next season with some expressing concern that it will restrict visibility.
It is hoped the halo will protect drivers from flying debris as well as going some way to prevent serious injury in the wake of Jules Bianchi's death last year. The Frenchman passed away in July, several months after he sustained a serious head injury in a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix.
