Rangers terminate Barton's contract
Rangers and Joey Barton have agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
Barton joined the Scottish Premiership club in the summer but he was suspended for three weeks in September after he was involved in a heated argument with team-mate Andy Halliday as a result of comments he made in the wake of Rangers 5-1 defeat to Celtic in the Old Firm derby.
That suspension lasted six weeks before he was told to return to training with the club's under-20s, only for the 34-year-old to be signed off with stress on Tuesday.
He has now agreed to leave the club with immediate effect.
"Rangers and Joey Barton have agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect. Neither Rangers nor Joey Barton will comment further," a statement from the club read.
Barton made eight appearances for Mark Warburton's side.
