Claudio Ranieri admits he was shocked when he was sacked by Leicester City.
Ranieri was sacked in February, just nine months after they were crowned Premier League champions, with the Italian dismissed on the back of a dismal defence of their title.
At the time of his departure, the Foxes were 17th in the table, one point above the relegation zone, but three successive wins have seen them climb to 15th and they are now six points clear of the drop zone.
A day after his sacking the 65-year-old admitted his dream had died and over a month on he has revealed news of his dismissal came as a huge shock to him.
"Thinking of Leicester, the first thing that comes to mind is the sense of surprise, even more than bitterness," Ranieri is quoted as saying in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I have been through a lot in my long career, but never anything like this. It was a shock, but in the end these things are part of football."
