Remembering Maradona on eir sport

Tune in to eir sport 1 on Sunday, November 29 for a tribute to the late, great Diego Maradona who sadly passed away at the age of just 60.

Arguably the greatest footballer of all time and undoubtedly the best of his generation, Maradona suffered a heart attack at his home in Buenos Aires just two weeks after undergoing surgery for a bleed to his brain.

He made his debut for Argentina at the age of just 16 and captained his country to World Cup victory in Mexico in 1986.

It was the pinnacle of a glorious but often controversial career that saw him dubbed 'hero' and 'villain' in equal measure.

Nothing exemplified that more than Argentina's 1986 World Cup quarter-final clash against England at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City where his two goals sealed victory for La Albiceleste - one 'The Hand of God', the other the 'Goal of the Century'.

See the great man at the height of his powers in that iconic match on Sunday from 5.30pm on eir sport 1.
