Ronaldo a doubt for City clash

Star limps off with thigh strain

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo could miss next Tuesday's Champions league clash with Manchester City after suffering a thigh strain.

The former Manchester United star, who has scored 47 goals in 44 appearances so far this season for Los Blancos, limped off late on in Real's 3-0 Primera Division victory over Villarreal on Wednesday night after falling awkwardly.

The 31-year-old had played every minute of every league game for Madrid this season but there are fears that he could miss both Saturday's trip to Rayo Vallecano and the Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next Tuesday.

The Portugal captain posted that everything was "good" on Instagram after the game, but an official club statement revealed the extent of the injury.

"Following tests carried out today on Cristiano Ronaldo in the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a muscle strain in his right thigh," the statement said.

"His recovery will continue to be assessed."
