Ronaldo named FIFA's Best

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the world's best player at the inaugural Best FIFA Football Awards.

Last year world football's governing body ended its association with the Ballon d'Or by introducing the Best FIFA Football Awards, which were voted for by national team captains, managers, selected journalists and an online poll of fans.

Ronaldo topped the vote after a year in which he won the Champions League with Real Madrid and Euro 2016 with Portugal.

The 31-year-old beat Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann to the prize.

"I tell you 2016 was the best year of my career. I had a lot of doubts but the trophy I think shows I lived up to that," Ronaldo said.

"After what I won and what I did I had no doubts that I would be able to get it, and to be able to have this achievement, it was a year that was magnificent on a personal level and a sports level.

"I will never forget this wonderful year."

There was success for the Premier League as Claudio Ranieri was named best men's coach after guiding Leicester to their first-ever title.

"I think what happened in England last season was amazing, something strange," Ranieri commented.

"My age is 65 and I start now to make a manager,

Surprisingly, Griezmann did not make the Fifpro World XI, which did not include any player from the Premier League.

As expected, Real Madrid and Barcelona dominated the team with five and four players respectively, while Juventus and Bayern Munich were also represented.

FIFPro World XI: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich); Dani Alves (Juventus); Gerard Pique (Barcelona); Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid); Marcelo (Real Madrid); Luka Modric (Real Madrid); Toni Kroos (Real Madrid); Andres Iniesta (Barcelona); Lionel Messi (Barcelona); Luis Suarez (Barcelona); Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid).
