Rooney excited to work with Mourinho

Wayne Rooney is looking forward to working with Jose Mourinho following his appointment as Manchester United manager.

Mourinho tried to sign Rooney during his time at Chelsea only to miss out when the striker opted to remain at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese coach is a fan of the England skipper and will finally get the opportunity to work with the player after being confirmed as Louis van Gaal's successor on Friday, with the former Chelsea boss set to report for duty in July.

Rooney himself is excited at the prospect of being managed by Mourinho, telling reporters: "It's exciting. Jose is one of the best managers in the world.

"He knows the Premier League really well. For myself and the other United players, it's exciting times and I'm looking forward to it."
