Rosberg: It will always be difficult with Hamilton

Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has described Lewis Hamilton as one of the greatest drivers of all time but believes things will 'always be difficult between' them.

Rosberg finished second behind Hamilton in the drivers' championship for the last two years but the roles were reversed in 2016 as the Germany clinched his maiden title in dramatic style in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.

Needing his team-mate and title rival to finish outside the top three, Hamilton deliberately slowed the pace from the front in the hope of putting Rosberg under pressure from those behind him only for the German to finish second.

The incident in Abu Dhabi came at the end of a season that saw their relationship tested and Rosberg believes there is little chance of them becoming friends.

"Lewis is one of the best of all time. He sets a high standard," Rosberg told reporters in Germany.

"It will always be difficult between us. We are in the same team and race against each other for titles.

"It is virtually impossible to have a good relationship. We used to be best friends when we were young so at least we have this respect for each other. This helps somewhat.

"I do not know how he feels at the moment but I know how I felt in 2014 and 2015."
