Rosberg quickest in Austria practice

Nico Rosberg got the better of Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the first free practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix.

Rosberg clocked a 1:07.373 lap to deny Hamilton top spot by 0.357seconds with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel taking third.

Hamilton had enjoyed a brief spell at the top of the timesheets but it was the German who emerged to post the fastest time of the morning with Kimi Raikkonen ensuring Mercedes and Ferrari dominated the first session.

Raikkonen posted the fourth-fastest time to finish ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo with Carlos Sainz Jr sixth for Toro Rosso.

Felipe Massa was the quickest of the Williams cars in seventh just one place better than Max Verstapen, who damaged his steering after hitting the kerbs.

Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas were ninth and tenth respectively.
