Rosberg tops morning Bahrain practice

Nico Rosberg posted the fastest time in Friday's first free practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Rosberg took the victory in the season-opener in Australia and his bid for a fifth consecutive victory got off to the perfect start as he held off the challenge of his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton to clock the fastest time of the morning at the Sakhir circuit.

The German posted a lap time of 1:32.292 to finish 0.277s ahead of his team-mate with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen best of the rest, 1.834 behind the pacesetter.

Red Bull drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat were fourth and fifth ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in the Force India.

Carlos Sainz Jr and his Toro Rosso team-mate Max Verstappen were seventh and eighth respectively as Romain Grosjean clocked the ninth-fastest time of the day for Haas. Felipe Massa completed the top ten in the Williams.
