Rose to be assessed ahead of Dortmund

Danny Rose will have to make do with a place on the bench for Tottenham's Champions League last-16 first-leg against Borussia Dortmund, if he is declared fit for the tie.

Rose sustained a shin injury during Tottenham's 3-1 win over Leicester on Sunday and he did not take part in Tuesday's training session.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that the left-back will be assessed by the medical team ahead of Wednesday's game but he has revealed that he will not be fit enough to start.

"It's impossible for him to start from the beginning, we need to assess in the morning whether he will be on the bench," Pochettino told reporters.

Tottenham are already without Harry Kane and Dele Alli for the visit of the Bundesliga side due to injuries.

Kane is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle injury, while Alli is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem and Wednesday's game comes too soon for both of them.

Meanwhile, Eric Dier joined in Tuesday's training after recovering from a virus with Erik Lamela also taking full part following a back injury.

Tottenham will host Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16 first-leg at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, 13 February live on BT Sport on the eir sport pack [kick-off 8pm]. Subscribe here
