Davy Russell is set to face an investigation after video footage appears to show the jockey striking a horse in Tramore on Friday.
The Irish Turf Club told the Guardian that stewards "weren’t aware" of the alleged incident, but an investigation "will be followed up" in due course.
The video footage surfaced on social media and shows Russell on King Dolly before the mares handicap hurdle.
Russell is nearly unseated as King Dolly comes to a halt at a hurdle pre-race, the At The Races Broadcast captured.
And outrage on social media has spread after Russell appears to strike the horse in the head.
Fellow jockey was Shane Foley was hit with a seven-day ban, five-day on appeal, after he struck his mount.
Foley was suspended under rule 272, which reads: "which is not in the best interest of racing".
