Ryan takes indefinite break

Colin Ryan says has taken an indefinite break from the Clare hurling panel because he's not "enjoying it any more".

The 2013 All-Ireland winner says he told his wife last summer that he was no longer enjoyed inter-county hurling.

However, the 31-year-old says he came under pressure from team-mates and supporters not to turn his back on the game after a decade's service to the Banner County.

Ryan says he talked to the new Clare managers, Donal Moloney and Gerry O'Connor, who accepted his decision and left the door open on a return.

"It's almost easier to get into it than it is to get out of it!" he told the Sunday Independent.

Ryan continues to hurl with his club Newmarket-on-Fergus and is enjoying resuming his soccer career with his local club Newmarket Celtic and the Clare league's team.

"There is no three-month build-up and three week post-mortem [in soccer] - when the game is over, we know we have another one the following week, so win or lose, we move on quickly," he said.
