Aryna Sabalenka has booked her spot in the Connecticut Open final with victory over Julia Goerges as she closes in on her first WTA tour crown.
No 5 seed Goerges was favourite to advance to the showpiece, but if one digs a little deeper the writing was on the wall, with Belarusian Sabalenka having already beaten the German at Eastbourne during the grass season. And a comprehensive 6-4, 7-6(3) victory in Connecticut got the job done one set earlier than it had taken Sabalenka earlier in the season.
Goerges held off break points in the second game, and also at 4-4, before finally succumbing to Sabalenka's power as she lost the first set.
Goerges broke at the start of the second set, but her advantage was lost as Sabalenka broke back to level at 4-4. They slugged the set into a tie-break, where Sabalenka again showed her powers of recovery to come back from 3-0 down to win the set and match with seven points in a row crushing Goerges.
Sabalenka faces the winner of Carla Suarez Navarro and Monica Puig in Sunday's decider.
