Mamadou Sakho has left Liverpool's pre-season tour of America and will continue his rehabilitation in England.
Despite an Achilles injury ruling him out of the tour of the United States, Sakho was named in the travelling party by manager Jurgen Klopp, who was eager to build team spirit ahead of the new season.
He continued to receive treatment in the US but Klopp has opted to cut his stay short with Sakho due to arrive back in the UK on Tuesday.
The timing of Sakho's departure has raised eyebrows with some reports claiming that the 26-year-old has been sent home due to his attitude, while Lucas Leiva and Joe Gomez will remain with the squad despite being ruled out of the tour.
Sakho has not played for Liverpool since April 20 after he was provisionally suspended for testing positive for a banned fat-burning substance.
