Sakho will not contest test results

Defender facing ban from football

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is reported to have accepted the results of his failed drugs test.

Sakho tested positive for a banned substance, believed to be a weight-loss aid, following the second leg of Liverpool's Europa League tie at Manchester United last month.

He had until Tuesday to request that his B-sample also be examined but the defender will not challenge the results of the test and he now faces an anxious wait to discover what action UEFA will take against him.

Liverpool have yet to comment on the situation but it has been reported that Sakho will not play for the club pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.

Team-mate Kolo Toure was handed a six-month ban by the Football Association for failing a drugs test in 2011 after admitting to taking his wife's diet pills.

A similar ban would see Sakho miss this summer's European Championships in France.
