Schmeichel faces hernia op

Kasper Schmeichel will undergo a hernia operation on Monday after limping out of Leicester's 2-1 win over Swansea on Saturday.

Foxes' manager Claudio Ranieri says the Dane has been managing the injury for the past few weeks, but felt discomfort when kicking the ball just before the hour-mark at the King Power Stadium and asked to be substituted.

The Italian says he expects Schmeichel to be in time for the Foxes' first match after the international break against Liverpool at Anfield on 10 September.

"Kasper played the last month with a little hernia and Monday he will have an operation. It will take four or five days but then he will be ready for the next match," Ranieri confirmed.

"It was in the program Monday and he wanted to play today and after he felt something we made the change."

Schmeichel has made 223 appearances for the Foxes in his five years at the club, and played in every game of the Premier League winning campaign last season.
