Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has trimmed three more players from his squad as they head off to a warm weather training camp in Portugal.
Finlay Bealham, John Cooney and Mike Haley have all been allowed to return to their respective provinces.
That reduces the number of players still in the preliminary panel to 40 following the release of Ultan Dillane and Rory Scannell ahead of the 29-10 win over Italy at the weekend.
Schmidt, who has hinted that he may make up to ten changes to the starting line-up for Ireland’s next warm-up match which is against England at Twickenham on Saturday week, must name his final 31-man panel for the tournament by September 8th.
Meanwhile, there was some good news on the injury front with Devin Toner and Rob Herring both declared fully fit, while Joey Carbery is expected to be out for between four and six weeks which could put him in contention for Ireland’s opening game against Scotland on September 22nd.
