Morgan Schneiderlin has admitted he is hoping to “turn the page” at Everton and get his career back on track.
The France international’s career has stalled badly with a big-money move to Manchester United failing to work out.
The midfielder linked-up with his former manager at Southampton, Ronald Koeman, when moving on to Everton last January.
However, the 28-year-old has failed to impress at Goodison Park and was dropped from the Toffees squad last month for a reported training ground incident with Kevin Mirallas – although Schneiderlin continues to deny this was the reason for his demotion.
Either way, the player has not started either of Everton’s last two games and his inclusion in their squad for their final Europa League group match away to Apollon Limassol in Cyprus, is a big hint that new boss Sam Allardyce doesn’t intend starting him against Liveprool on Sunday.
But Schneiderlin is hoping to impress on Thursday night – in a game you can see live on eir Sport 2, kick-off 18.00 – and use it to kickstart his career.
“First I read about it in the newspaper and I was as surprised as I could be because there was no incident,” he said.
“I made a statement on my social networks saying it was fake news and it wasn’t true.
“I want to turn the page. It was not nice for me to see that and it is part of football. I have to deal with it.
“I want to prove (myself) in every game and of course there is a new manager coming in so it’s a fresh start for everyone. I haven’t had the chance to play the last few games and it is going to be up to me to show what I can do and that I can make a difference to the team.
“It needs to be the aim of everybody to show themselves and show that they can play. It is a chance to prove you can play.”
